“The development of local media in a global world” is a  research project based at the Department. The topicality is determined by two conflicting trends. On the one hand, in the face of continued globalization the differences between the media systems of different countries are being blurredout and nations start losing their national information independence. On the other hand, the development of information and communication technologies increasingly involves the audience into the process of mass information activities (creation and distribution of various types of content). Local media are most affected by the impact of these two trends. Owing to the shortage of personnel, financial and other resources (including the  audience) they are forced to look for ways to combine global and local agenda and maintain profitability.
