Department Profile

Department of Foreign Languages for Engineering Sciences is part of Institute of Philology and Language Communication, SFU. Since 2011 Department Chair is Candidate of Culturology, Assoc. Prof. Vita Vonog  Department provides language training courses for students (both bachelor’s degree and master’s degree programs) of 4 institutes: 

  • Polytechnic Institute
  • Institute of Physics and Radio Electronics
  • Civil Engineering Institute
  • Institute of Architecture and Design

Department also provides additional vocational training courses to get “Translator in the field of professional communication” qualification. 

Teaching staff of Department consists of 9 Candidates of Sciences (V.V. Vonog, N.A. Ignatov, G.P. Petrischeva, S.V. Kokorina, S.V. Ryzhova, D. Yu. Andreev, L. E. Gavrilina, E.P. Yefremova, V.N. Suray ), 12 Associate Professors , 26 Senior Lecturers, 4 Lecturers.

Historical Profile

1956 - Department of Foreign Languages was established at former Krasnoyarsk Polytechnic Institute;

1978 – Publication of the first textbook, edited by Department;

1970-1980 - Department of Foreign Languages was divided into several sections in compliance with foreign languages taught: English, German and French sections;

1990 - Two sections were merged in order to optimize the educational process;

1999 – Establishing Section of additional education in the field of foreign languages to prepare engineers with a additional qualification of   translators in the field of professional communication;

2010 – Transformation of the Sector into Centre for Further Education in Foreign Languages that in addition to training courses in translation also provides language courses (English, German, Spanish) for beginners and advanced learners;

2011 – Establishing Department of Foreign Languages for Engineering Sciences as an integral part of  Institute of Philology and Language Communication.
