Department Profile

Department of Russian Language and Speech Communication was established in 2011 by merging previously existed Department of Russian Language and Department of General Linguistics and Rhetoric.

Department Chair is Doctor of Philology, Professor Galina Kopnina.

Department admits students to the following educational programs: 031000.62 Philology (Bachelor’s degree program) 032700.62 Philology (Bachelor’s degree program) 03270068 Philology (Master’s degree program).

The curriculum of bachelor’s degree programs includes the following subjects: “Fundamentals of Philology”, “Basic Theory of Communication”, “General Linguistics”, “Theory of Language”, “Philosophy of Language”, “History of Linguistic Studies”, “Latin language”, “Old Church Slavonic language”, “Modern Russian language”, “Historical Grammar”, “Speech culture and stylistics”, “Russian dialectology”, “Literary Editing”, “Rhetoric”, “History of Russian Literary Language”, “Philological text analysis”, “Culture of scientific speech”, “Stylistics of business communication and official documents editing”, “Theory of Spelling and Punctuation” , as well as a variety of  special courses and courses on the student’s choice (“Basic Argumentation Theory”, “Linguistics and urbanology”, “Ethnolinguistics and its current issues”, “Communicational Ecology of Russian language” etc.) .

The curriculum of master’s degree programs includes following subjects: “Philology as a part of  modern humanities”, “Functional Grammar of Russian Language”, “Semantics of Russian Language”, “Methods and techniques of working on a master's thesis” , “Linguistic pragmatics”, “Teaching rhetoric” , “Contemporary business communication”, “Linguistic personology : issues of Russian language personality " , as well as elective courses such as “Linguistics in the field of law”, “Russian language from gender perspective”, “Russian language in modern advertising and public relations techniques”, “Onomastics of Russian language”, “Political linguistics”, “Manipulation in the aspect of information security community” etc.

Teachers of the department are also responsible for a number of courses on humanities in other institutes of  Siberian Federal University: “Russian language and culture of speech”, “Communication in business”, “Commercial letters in Russian”, “Russian Language in business spheres”, “Latin language”, “Ancient Greek”.
